What Kyoto can and can't do
Read this before you buy, together with a try of the theme in your own store. If something you need isn't on either list, ask us.
You can do this with settings, without code
- Change the colors of the whole store from one palette, and give any section its own color scheme or craft color field.
- Choose fonts for headings, body and accents, separate Japanese fonts, and the exact size of every heading level.
- Choose the size of most parts of a section: headings, images, objects, cards, columns, spacing and the parts of the product page.
- Build pages from 100 sections and over 150 blocks, in any order, on any page type.
- Choose between nine header layouts, six mega menu styles and three mobile menu styles.
- Show products on color fields that follow the chosen color variant, with a size ruler and a museum-style label read from metafields.
- Offer gift wrap, gift messages, noshi and a requested delivery date in the cart.
- Show free shipping progress in the cart, on the product page, in the announcement bar and on the cart icon.
- Choose how much the store moves, per store and per section, and respect shoppers' reduced motion settings.
- Sell in eight included languages with Shopify's language and market settings.
- Use filters, sorting, quick buy, product comparison, recently viewed products, pickup availability, subscriptions and wholesale ordering, using Shopify's own features.
Kyoto can't do this
| What | Why, and what you can do instead |
|---|---|
| Change the checkout: add fields (such as furigana or a delivery date), reorder them or restyle the checkout freely | The checkout is Shopify's own page; a theme stops at the cart. Use Settings > Checkout for its look and options, or a checkout app. Kyoto's cart can collect a delivery date, noshi and gift messages before checkout. |
| Copy the demo store's photos, products and texts into your store | Shopify doesn't transfer demo content. You get the same sections and layout; add your own photos and products. |
| Collect or show reviews by itself | Install a reviews app. Kyoto shows its ratings on cards and on the product page and gives it a place on the page. |
| Rank products by sales automatically | The Ranking section shows a collection in its own order. Sort that collection manually, or by best selling, in the Shopify admin. |
| Show countdowns that restart for every visitor, or fake "only 2 left" messages | Kyoto's countdowns and low stock messages use only the dates and inventory you really have. |
| Show a live Instagram or TikTok feed | Kyoto shows photos and videos you upload yourself. For a live feed, use an app block from a feed app. |
| Take event bookings or appointments | The Events section announces events; sell tickets as products or link to a booking service. |
| Translate your content automatically | Kyoto includes its own text in eight languages. Translate your products and pages with Shopify's Translate & Adapt app. |
| Check legal content for you | Sections such as Legal table, Age verification and Footnotes display what you enter. You are responsible for the content and its legal requirements. |
| Use web fonts for Chinese | Chinese pages use the shopper's device fonts, which are fast and complete. |
| Right-to-left languages | Not included and not yet tested. |
| Change how apps look inside their own blocks | An app draws its own content. Kyoto gives it the page width, spacing and color scheme of the section around it. |
Code changes
Kyoto's code can be edited like any Shopify theme, but code changes are not part of our support and are not carried into new versions automatically. See For developers.
